My mum was trying to explain what anthropology was over Zoom to me, an anthropologist.

I told her this was “mansplaining’, but she wouldn’t have it.

“I have life experience that can’t be replaced by books, and anthropologists study people’s life experiences.”

It’s true, for humanities matters, like life wisdom and mental health, theories are not enough, we need life experience (obviously go so far to assume one’s personal experience is representative to a whole academic discipline, like my mum, is a little too far).
