People tend to over-complicate many things and think you have to use your mind to do everything, but that’s not entirely true in this case
The Vietnamese Zen monk Thich Nhat Hanh said:
“Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.”
This saying resonates with me because, for years, I have been practising using my body to help me feel how I want to feel. For instance, sometimes, I do as the good monk suggests when I want to cheer myself up. I fix a smile on my face and keep on smiling until I notice that I am feeling more cheerful. I’ll explain the science behind this technique in a minute.
Using my body to create desired feelings has proved invaluable because I can convince people I’m pleased to see them. Or I can turn on energy whenever I need it. It’s like putting petrol in the tank.
