John C. Bogle’s magnum opus on Common Sense Investing has an interesting point on the common investors (of time and money) not having any common sense.
Common sense is to avoid beating the market is hoping for a miracle that not many people experience in their lifetime. Only 1% of the Fund Managers make a profit closest to the Market return. If the data shows that over-indulging in something hurts the overall long-term returns, then why would you want to indulge in it?
It's like knowing drugs make you crazy and doing it anyway.
