Most people see me as a person who craves a sense of safety and security. However, I’m certain that the yearning for adventure has been deeply ingrained in me since childhood. While these two things may seem incompatible, in my experience they are not.

To me, adventure is when your tastebuds come alive as you take the first bite of a great spicy dish. Or the rush I feel throughout my body when I inhale cool, crisp mountain air. It brings my senses to attention and moves me from just existence to feeling alive!

Though traditionally the definition of adventure includes risks or danger, I see it as a remarkable experience. I guess it wouldn’t be much of an adventure with some level of risk, but it should be something that takes you out of your comfort zone.

Most people have some sense of adventure, but it depends on the degree between slight and extreme. I know people that don’t have an adventurous bone in their body. I say live and let live!

I’ve read that there is a gene that is associated with a love for travel and new experiences. It goes by the nickname “wanderlust” gene. This gene impacts dopamine levels and tolerance for risk-taking. I didn’t think I had that gene given my personality traits.
