How to Get 1% Better Every Day: Lessons from a (very) Humbling Experience

I’ll hold my hands up.
In the past, I preached the wrong advice about self-improvement.
I used to be one of these people who’d say things like:
“Go for a 5k run.”
“Get up and go to the gym every day.”
Or, “Wake up at 5 am and get ahead of everyone else.”
You know, the usual and predictable kind of self-help advice that gets used over and over again.
But an experience last year shifted my entire perception of self-improvement.
Last year I volunteered at a local drug and alcohol service.
It was so far out of my comfort zone it was untrue.
To be honest, I was ridiculously intimidated and had no idea what to expect.
What unfolded, though, was life-changing.
It was an experience that opened my eyes to a whole new dimension I had no idea even existed.
Here are three powerful lessons it taught me…
