Decision-making is hard, make no mistake about it.

One of the biggest reasons that people have trouble making up their minds is because our choices have exploded.

In the “old days”, most of us only had to consider a handful of choices at a time. We had three flavours of ice-cream, a handful of job opportunities, and maybe two suitors to choose from (three if we were lucky). Decision-making was a no-brainer.

Today, however, the number of choices we have today, and therefore the number of decisions we have to make are close to 35,000 a day. That’s crazy!
So, even if you aren’t indecisive by natural, you’d still have a hard time making up your mind.

The Paradox of Choice

In particular, for those of us lucky enough to live in a developed country like Australia or the U.S., our problem isn’t that we don’t have enough options or opportunities, it’s having too many.
