How to Overcome the Feeling of Not Being Good Enough
I never felt confident as I was never good enough until I built this mindset.
At some point in our lives, we all must have experienced this strange thing. We went somewhere or were surrounded by some extraordinary or, in general, better people than us, and it made us feel like they had so many things figured out in life that we hadn’t yet. It makes you feel like you are not good enough compared to them.
I can feel the pain because I am not anything different. In the past, I have experienced the same. Feeling like I am not good enough or am left behind in life is nothing new to me. This was probably the main reason for my lack of confidence when I was young.
Although I have not completely overcome it yet, the situation is much better than what it used to be. There is something that I applied in my life that helped me overcome the fear.
Starting with situations that made me feel I am not good enough
Let me tell you the place where I feel most left out—the place that kills my confidence. Ok, so I am talking about college. The reason behind this feeling is that I have always seen guys who are way better than me in terms of studies. And constantly seeing that crushed my self-esteem in such a way that I hated visiting the college.
Another reason is the culture I belong to. I come from a middle-class family where most of my college students are way richer than me.
I know the reason is crap, but I do not know why I always feel this way.
Except for college, the online world used to make me feel like I was way behind in life. It has always shown that where guys half my age are earning six figures, I make nothing.
But this one does not affect me anymore. I have gotten out of that social media BS.
Except for these two, there are several other situations that made me have that kind of thought. But let's not see the problems and move toward the solution.
How to conquer the feeling of not being good enough
As I have said, I have not overcome the feeling totally, but I can give you some of my ideas that may help you decrease or completely eradicate these types of thoughts.
Work on your weaknesses
When I see someone good at something at which I am not good, I ask myself, "Is it possible for me to work on that?" or "Do you even want to be good at that?"
If the answer comes out yes, then I work on that. So, the next time I come across the same thing or the same person, I will no longer feel like I am not good at that.
Self-talk
This one is what I use very often. Whenever I am in a situation where I feel like I am not as good as the people around me, I do a lot of self-talk. I keep reminding myself that, “Bro, you are thinking wrong again!" You also know it is just a momentary thought, and it will vanish once you return to your comfort zone.
All this self-talk helps me take control of my mind, and I feel more relaxed.
Build the mindset
No one on this earth is perfect; remind yourself of that. No matter where you go, how much you learn, and how many skills you acquire, there will always be someone who is one step ahead of you. So, feeling that you are not good at something is not a healthy way to think. Instead, you need to work on yourself. It is always you vs. you. So, be better than what you were last year or month.
This one is the hardest to do. and even I am working on it. But once you master this mindset, it can change the game, and you will never feel that you lack something.
