How Viktor Frankl’s Motivational Quote Is Better Than a Thousand Self-Help Books
Viktor Frankl, a WWII concentration camp survivor and famous psychologist who created his life’s work in Logotherapy, said, “What is to give light must endure burning.”
I was 12 or 13 when I knew what I wanted to be in my life.
Never wear a suit to work
Play in the NBA and/or overseas professional basketball
Retire at 35
Be free
When I retired from basketball at the of 35 and reached all of my life goals, I thought life was going to be easy.
“I did it!” my conscious screamed. “I’m here, at the promised land!”
After I moved home from Europe, this lasted about two weeks, maybe three. I eventually got lost. Like soulfully, mentally, spiritually, physically bat-shit-crazy turned around, lost.
When I had no internal dreams, what then?
When I had no external validation, what then?
When I had no highlights on German television, what then?
Who was I without the game that gave me everything?
I felt as though my life was burning into nothingness.
“What is to give light must endure burning.”
