How We’ve Weathered the Superstorm
Life Lessons from Typhoon Gaemi in Taiwan
In the past few days, I experienced something extraordinary — a powerful typhoon named Gaemi — as it’s strong wind gusts and heavy rain whipped across Taiwan.
I’ve experienced typhoons in Taiwan and Hong Kong before and can tell you this wasn’t just another “weather event”; it was a force of nature that left a lasting impression on me.
It got me thinking.
You see, typhoons are incredibly powerful and can make us feel small and insignificant. Once they’re “on”, there’s not much else to do than to take shelter and simply sit it out.
That’s what we did.
And it was so good — actually, I recharged my batteries nicely and got to do some extra writing done.
Let me share my personal experience and the valuable life lessons I think I’ve learned from experiencing typhoon Gaemi firsthand.
The Force of Nature
Vulnerability in the Face of Nature
Nature is unpredictable and uncontrollable.
Just like how the recent Crowdstrike and Microsoft issues impacted the global economy last week, natural events such as typhoons strike anytime and disrupt our lives.
They remind me of our vulnerability.
When typhoon Gaemi was aiming for Taiwan, we rushed to our neighbourhood supermarket to stock up some food and supplies.
The shelves emptied fast.

The most sought after stuff was:
- veggies and fruits
- instant noodles
- bottled water
