Member-only story
I Just Saw All Our Performance Ratings. What Happened Next Was Ugly [& So Classic].
The highest stake management meeting of the year never disappoints
Once again, here we are.
It is that time of the year. We call it performance banding.
This is, according to my team, the only day of the year when I get to work [hard] for them. This is the only time when I demonstrate my appreciation for their efforts by fighting for their benefits.
That perspective is debatable. At least… to me.
That said, there is truth in it.
Inking, negotiating, and fighting for the best overall position for our team members is about their current reward and future compensation.
It matters, of course.
The pre-meetings matter
The meetings before the actual meeting were more interesting.
Everyone knew when the big event would be scheduled. They could guess. In truth, you could too.
That one-week-long meeting invitation would be sent by James [our HR director] roughly 4 weeks before. For the eagle-eyed individuals who routinely scan their managers’ calendars for empty slots… they know.
