I Set a Goal to Read More Books — Here's What Happened
How I developed a book filtering process
In 2019, as a broke university student, I set a goal to read 2–3 books monthly. I remember taking money out of my little allowance to go to the bookshop to buy books for the month.
I lived alone in my landlord's boys' quarters, who was about 85 years old, so I didn't have anyone to talk to after my classes — I only had my books.
It was exciting coming home to read books and fixing my eyes on these books till it got dark.
I could feel myself becoming more introspective, but that's not all that happened. I found something strange about books.
….Books became similar to a meal
Bill Gates once said he doesn't pick a new book without finishing it. But I've found that it's not something I would like to follow.
Now, imagine you try a new meal that tastes horrendous. Would you keep eating because you believe it would eventually become nice?
Of course not! You would stop eating.
And some people who decide to eat the food because of hunger won't go back to that meal if they had a choice.
