I Was Feeling Low and Then I Found a Way to Make My Soul Sing And Dance
Some would say it’s just a word, but when you live by the meaning of that word your insides light up.
The dark clouds had invaded my mind in the night. I woke up feeling doom-laden. Then I remembered the word “cherish”. I decided to spend some time bringing to mind all the ways I cherish my wife. Even though we’ve been married for over fifty years, today, I decided that the time had come to value this quiet, modest person’s enormous contribution to my happiness and well-being.
Some would say, “What took you so long?” And I would have to answer that I have often been so self-absorbed that I didn’t have the space in my schedule to devote to this simple act of devotion.
The simple truth is that I never even thought about cherishing anyone when they have not been present. It never occurred to me that I would benefit so much from giving conscious love and appreciation to the ones I love, except when I have been with them. Perhaps that’s part of the secret: when you think about cherishing someone else, you are giving, and the act of giving makes you feel good. All you are giving is well-deserved appreciation, but it makes your heart sing to give in this way.
