When I decided to start fasting the same afternoon, my friend and I spoke about it — the hormonal implications it may pose were never an issue.

I didn’t experience any negative impacts, although women’s bodies and hormones react in a completely different way to fasting than men.

We are all wired in entirely different ways based on genetics.

Women’s bodies run monthly due to hormonal fluctuations that result in menstruation each month.

It’s advised that women take a more relaxed approach to fasting due to the impact hormones have on appetite and energy requirements.

The Obesity Society suggests women do not adhere to a strict fasting regime because they may begin to experience impaired glucose response.

Alternate day fasting may be a suitable option for those not obese.
