It Isn’t Sacrilegious to Consider God May Be a Goddess
God is not inherently male
One of my roommates asked this question in college: What if God is a Goddess? Her point in asking wasn’t to have a polite conversation. She wanted to incense anger. Sad to say, it worked too — well, kind of. I’ve grown a lot as a person since then.
The dialogue mirrors a lot of discourse that’s happening in society. It’s okay to ask thought-provoking questions. Having a good debate enhances ideas and grows the art of good conversation. We can stand to bring back good conversation where we don’t agree with one another without hearing, ‘I hate you.’
My daughter recently asked me the same question: What if God is a Goddess?
In this instance, I didn’t offer a direct answer. We have some of the best conversations when no one is right, and we talk about ideas. As soon as I weigh in on a subject with a personal stance, the exchange shuts down.
Either that or the kids take an opposing view just for the sake of argument. Often, I’ll try to get them to open up first, so we can explore thoughts. Then we look to see if we can back our thoughts with credible resources. Sometimes we’ll go to the library for additional leisure reads. Often, we turn to a Google search.
