Lessons Learned from My 99-Year-Old Grandma About Growing Old
I consider myself at “half-time” of my life, I’m currently 43 years “young” and somehow secretly hope it might only be the first third that I’ve experienced so far though.
However, the “half-time” wake-up call is a strong one. It’s now soon eight years ago since I turned 36 and my then 72-year-old dad called me to congratulate me on my birthday. It was of the most memorable calls we’ve ever had…
He started with “Hey son, congrats and Happy Birthday, do you realize? You’re now already half my age!” As I swallowed empty, he continued: “You’re catching up!” which truly did the job for me to remain silent and for him to grab the chance to finish off by giving me the most valuable reminder I’ve ever gotten from him: “Beware, life is speeding up, the second half passes by faster!”
Wow… almost eight years from then I’m still thinking about these words…
