Why do we love Mark Twain so much?

After all, he’s been dead for over 110 years now.

Maybe it’s his humour… his wit… his wisdom?

For me, it’s the combination of all three.

It’s easy to look back and only see the fame and fortune but he lived a full and vivacious life, full of ups and downs, twists and turns, fortune and fuck ups.

The latter came when he invested in a few things that sent him into bankruptcy.

(He later earned everything back, don’t worry about that.)

So, by the end of his life, he gave this advice.

Here are the five rules that Mark Twain recommends for a happy life.

“Life is short. Break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile.”

For the remainder of this blog, I’ll break down each one in more detail for the sheer enjoyment of it.

So, let’s have some fun, shall we?

1. Break the rules
