My Colleagues Got Stuck on an Island for a Leadership Camp. I Teared While Laughing.
It was hilarious
I hate leadership camps.
Don’t get me wrong. I see the necessity for leadership grooming. That is how we share our accumulated business knowledge and experience with our workplace young. I am all-in for career mentorship programs.
But leadership camps?
And leadership camps masquerading as department retreats?
Give me a break. No one will contribute anything.
Well, at least, not in my experience.
Arrested and trapped on a remote island
This is an apt description.
I did not say it. My peer from the finance department did. They were arrested and dumped on a remote island 1 week ago. Their leadership curriculum mandated a trap-in stayover for 3 days and 2 nights.
Here’s the interesting thing.
The leadership camp is not designed to be a plain vanilla off-site training. Instead, it peppers elements of fun in between serious discussions.
I give credit to our HR team.
But… somewhere, somehow… the wheels came off.
