Lately, I have felt drawn to something I have spent most of my life wriggling out of — routine.
You name it, I’ve failed to maintain it: strict schedules, diet plans, workout programs, skincare regimens.
I’ve written down my goals and intentions, bought planners, and used my phone reminders to no avail.
It has simply never been in my nature to do the same thing every day. I’m a “wake up and see what the day brings” kind of gal. If I want to take a walk, I do that. If I’m craving Indian food, I eat it. I go to sleep when I’m tired, and I wash my face when I feel like it.
And it’s always worked for me. Even with the big things, like studying or work. My energy waxes and wanes. When I feel excited to work/study, I follow that impulse and I’m quite productive. When I’m not inspired toward something, I rest, and that tends to help balance out the more active periods of my life.
My body has its (somewhat chaotic) rhythms and I’ve followed them. So routine isn’t something I’ve often felt I need to bring in success or well-being.
