Self-Help Books — Self-Help Alcohol A Tale of Two Aisles

As I walked in the Barnes and Noble bookstore I had a revelation. The aisle reminded me of the grocery store I recently walked through. Self-Help in two ways: one takes effort and one feels, at first, effortless. However, in reflection, one self-help section, lies.

Aisle One: Alcohol, All Types and Styles

Every type of alcoholic beverage of interest, row upon row, layer upon layer, lays waiting for the willing, wanting, and waning to arrive and purchase or steal from the store. Someone will enter, to find their source of comfort, distraction, or reduction of pain, in the guise of having fun or numbing out.

People return to the place of comfort. Wherever a sense of relief came from, people will return. Even if the return is wrought with despair and discouragement, if the pain is reduce, the idea remains.
