Seven Words from Ram Dass That Soothe My Soul
Bruce Lee once said: “Words are energy and they cast spells, that’s why it’s called spelling.”
In the wrong hands, words can harm.
In the right hands, they can heal.
Ram Dass was one of those ‘right-handed’ people.
He said things like:
- “Everything changes once we identify with being the witness to the story, instead of the actor in it.”
And:
- “What you meet in another being is the projection of your own level of evolution.”
That last line has helped me understand the role of relationships in my life because there are parts of me that remain hidden until someone or something brings them to the surface. People act as an external reflection of something that’s happening inside; they’re a mirror to my psyche.
If someone says something hurtful to me, for example, chances are it’s something that’s unresolved in my life. When a girl I fancied in high school called me ugly it crushed me because I secretly believed it myself.
If I had more confidence, I would have shrugged it off.
