Something Isn’t Right
When Alan Watts had an off day
Alan Watts must have been grumpy on the day he wrote:
“Man is a little germ that lives on an unimportant rock ball that revolves about a small star at the outskirts of an ordinary galaxy.”
We’ve all been there. You look around and suddenly life doesn’t make sense anymore. The familiar becomes foreign, nonsensical. What used to be entertaining loses its shine.
In the darkest moments, I’ve wondered what the point of any of it is.
Alan Watts continued.
“I am absolutely amazed to discover myself on this rock ball rotating around a spherical fire. It’s a very odd situation. And the more I look at things I cannot get rid of the feeling that existence is quite weird.”
It is weird, isn’t it? You and I are specks of dust floating in the middle of a vast darkness on a tiny planet in an ever expanding universe that goes on for eternity.
It certainly puts things into perspective.
Whenever I think about it, I’m left in utter bemusement and awe because it’s too big to grasp. Yet grasp it we must.
Like Alan Watts, there are some days I feel like a little germ living an ordinary life in a weird world. But also like Alan Watts, I, too, remember…
