The Joy of Snowfall
Why Moments Like Building a Snowman Matter
The first snowfall in Switzerland late this year was nothing short of magical.
For me, seeing that blanket of white brought an instant rush of childhood joy — snow-covered trees, soft crunches beneath boots, and, of course, the opportunity to build a snowman.
I couldn’t wait to relive that moment with my daughter.
My son is a tad too old now, he believes.
I’m not, I believe.
Yet, as I overheard others dismissing their kids’ excitement — calling the idea of building a snowman a waste since it’ll “melt anyway” — I couldn’t help but think it’s not the snow that’ll melt away, but your chance to enjoy a wonderful moment together and create life-long memories!
What happened to the magic of snow?
It reminded me how important it is to find joy in moments like these and the responsibility we have, as parents, to show our kids that life’s simple pleasures are worth celebrating.
After all, it’s not the snowman that lasts — it’s the memories.
Life offers these fleeting opportunities to create moments that matter — the rest is up to you.
