2020 was a year where all germs were vilified. As hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes flew off the shelves, our fear against viruses and bacteria became as intense as ever before.

But the truth is, not all germs are bad. In fact, the gut microbiome, the collection of trillions of fungi, bacteria, and archaea are crucial for human health. In fact, these gut bugs outnumber human cells! The composition of our gut microbiome is intimately tied to our risk of obesity, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer risk, autoimmune diseases and beyond (Source).

No gut bugs = no life.

Though probiotics have been on the scene for several decades, there has recently been one specific gut bacterium which is becoming more and more well known for its links to immune health, lipid and glucose metabolism, and obesity.
