The One Question You Should Ask Yourself Every Day to Make Progress
The Power of Valuing Your Today.
Most of us have not learned the value of what it means to live today. Either we use today to ruminate on past triumphs or pain or imagine future concerns or victories without realising that it is stealing our energy to focus on what is meaningful for us today. This universal thought loop, which we all navigate without consciously choosing, is either a source of distraction or procrastination, delaying and keeping us away from what we can accomplish today.
The moment I recognise such unhealthy thought patterns arise within me, I pause to ask this question :
What can I do today (to make progress on what matters to me) with what I have?
Here’s how this simple question is helping and teaching me these days to redirect my focus, energy and efforts:
- To let go of yesterday’s triumphs, sorrows and expectations.
- Commit to moving forward and making progress.
- When you value today, you can prioritise what you can do today.
- Value possibilities in its seed stage and take initiatives.
- Develop a growth mindset by channeling efforts in the right direction.
“Don’t worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today”. (Mathew 6:34, Bible, Contemporary English Version)
Here is what I have learned through it all:
Even the tendency to take things for granted comes from the assumption that all that we have today will also be accessible tomorrow. As we all know, this is far from the truth as external aspects are always unpredictable and uncertain.
