The Power of Soulmates Who Come To Teach You Something
We attract what makes us grow
I have lived most of my life trying to escape. When I was 16 years old, I knew: I was never going to stay in the Netherlands (my home country). When I turned 19, I packed my bags and moved to the USA. What followed were 15 years of going in and out of multiple countries — sometimes back home, sometimes to the other side of the world.
I was always ready to move on, to start somewhere new. I made friends easily, and I said goodbye just as easily (hello, avoidant attachment style!).
What I didn’t know back then was that I was running away from myself. The pain that had gripped me in the Netherlands just ran with me.
So, of course, I had to meet somebody who would make me face myself.
You are calling certain experiences into your life
I wish I knew back then that everything that caused me harm was not to punish me. It was to hold up a mirror. Once you realize that every experience is a way to make you grow, everything starts making so much more sense.
Nothing happens by accident, especially not the things that shake you up. You called those things into your life to evolve. It’s up to you to learn the lesson.
