This week, someone asked me, “How do we develop compassion for others?”

Years ago, a friend asked me a similar question. We were meeting at the mall in the morning. Maybe it was too early for the food court to open, so we waited in the waiting area.

As soon as one stall opened, we walked towards it. During the order placement, I saw the person having breakfast.

I asked him to please finish his food before serving us.

When we returned to our tables, she asked, “How to be more empathic?”

Empathy happens when you feel the other's struggles or problems. Compassion is doing something about it. It is like when you feel inside, you act outside.

It can not start randomly if you have never connected with others.

Experiencing helps, but it is not all.

When you burn your hands in the fire, you know the agony of blisters, sleepless nights, and accompanying pain. Then, you can deeply relate to others who undergo similar experiences.

Similar experiences help to correlate.

However, having the same experience to relate to does not guarantee that you’ll feel for…
