Toxic Shame Will Erode Your Life From the Inside Out
For as long as I can remember I’ve always thought I was bad, inherently unworthy and destined to hurt others.
I’m not sure where this belief started, all I know is that it has stayed with me over the years.
Even though when I apply logic I know I am not, the belief remains. Like peeling an onion, there’s a sense that somethings rotten deep inside.
This, my friends, is my experience of toxic shame.
An emotion, that when chronically felt and established at an easy age, can cause destruction in all areas of our lives.
It’s what we’re talking about today.
All things toxic shame.
Grab a coffee, tea, or drink of your choice and let’s have a chat about this deeply personal emotion.
Toxic Shame vs Healthy Shame
Shame is a healthy emotion to have in small doses. Psychologists believe the emotion evolved alongside our need for connection. Shame, whilst painful, can help us revaluate actions that have hurt or upset others, guiding us on what to do to resolve relationships and do what’s right. It’s a self-critical emotion that, when expressed healthily, can make us better people.
