Twice in My Career I Worked with “Admin-Type” Managers. Twice I Rejoiced [& Cursed].
Easy life at work / terrible life in the office.
I was reminded of my past this afternoon.
It started with my cousin. She was celebrating her new job because her current boss is a joy to have. 10 minutes in and I figured it out.
Suling was singing praises of an admin-type manager.
Her articulation brought me back to my memory lane. I had such managers in the past. They left a deep impression on me.
And I made the same mistake as Suling.
I rejoiced too soon.
What an “admin-type” manager is like
A prototype of such managers is necessary before we begin.
I [still] remember the first one I had. His name was Jon.
Jon was the perfect manager I had within the first 3 months of the job. He was nice, always smiling, and willing to listen to my work woes.
Wow, this guy genuinely cares, I thought. And I thought that was what a manager should be like.
