Why Creatives Need a Morning Routine

Creative people tend to hate the idea of scheduling anything, even (maybe especially) their creative work. Rules, schedules, and plans can feel like prisons to their creativity.

But all too often, what happens is… crickets.

Utilizing your morning energy for your creative work has several advantages:

  1. It can skyrocket your productivity
  2. It gives you a huge positive energy boost to know your most important work for the day is done
  3. You do your work before you get mired in the daily “stuff to do”

I’ve finally arrived at the conclusion that I have to embrace the reality that how I start my morning has a direct correlation to how the rest of my day goes.

Confession; I’m not, or never used to be, a morning person. As my mother always reminded me, I was two weeks late to my own birth. Once I’m cozy somewhere, I don’t want to move, and in fact had to literally be dragged, kicking and screaming, into the real world. She also spent years dragging me out of bed to get ready for school.
