Why Feeling Understood Matters More Than Winning Conversations
At first, I thought the world didn’t understand me. Then, I grew up and realized I didn’t understand the world.
Gary Vee and Simon Sinek are two of my favourite creators online. They have rare intellects. They both talk about business, but if you listen to them closely, they always talk about how to live a better life.
Gary Vee says,
“Empathy is the most important business skill.”
Simon Sinek says,
“If you don’t understand people, you don’t understand business.”
I say,
“Understanding people gives us a deeper understanding of ourselves, and it’s critical to our survival.”
Working in the Hindi film industry in India was tough, and people manipulated me. Either I was naive, or I worked with extremely cunning people. I don’t have much control over who I work with, but I can teach myself to be more careful.
I had the talent as a writer and director, but I was still failing miserably.
The problem was that people were using me to their own advantage — they were growing, but I wasn’t.
