Why I Don’t Believe in Stretch Goals

Pushing yourself to the limit isn’t a healthy self-improvement strategy.

Just because your dream has a plan doesn’t make it any better than a wish.

I was told so often growing up to “dream big”.

You’re not supposed to settle for the low-hanging fruit when it comes to goal-setting.

You’re supposed to go for the big goals, the goals that you don’t even believe that you can achieve.

This always clashed with the idea of “little wins” and attainable goals I was taught growing up (like those in the SMART goals template).

I’ve been conflicted for a long time, and if I’m being honest, I still am.

“A goal properly set is halfway reached.” — Zig Ziglar

What I can say for certain, though, is that stretch goals have never led to consistent and meaningful change in my life.

Reasonable goals have always been better for me in building lasting change and yielding wanted results in my life.

Here are my main issues with Stretch Goals:

1- You could be setting yourself up for failure.
