Edison Mail’s New Stackable Search Filters Find What You Need Across Email Accounts
Our new powerful search eliminates the frustration of combing your inbox
- Email search is something many email providers struggle to do well, which leads to added stress when time is off the essence.
- Our team worked to improve what search can be by prioritizing the contacts you actually communicate with, integrating our Assistant features, grouping your contacts and, for the first time in a third party email app, allowing you to stack your search filters to narrow down more accurate results across your combined Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo! Mail and other accounts.
- Available on iOS and on Android.
The exchange you had with your coworker sometime between November and December of last year. The receipts from your last business trip. The itinerary your mom sent you from one of her four email accounts.
What do all of these messages have in common? That’s right, they’re likely lost somewhere deep in your inbox and attempting to locate them will be painful.
Email search is, by all accounts, a mess. Half the time you do a quick search and the results aren’t applicable to what you were looking for. The other half of the time, there are simply too many results because the search must dig through all of your email accounts. These complaints about email search are things we’ve heard from you, our consumers (and our own personal experience) for years now. When you need something quickly, there’s nothing more frustrating than running into these clunky delays that make doing so impossible.
However while it can be frustrating, search is also fascinating. More so than most other features, it offers a peek into the different thought processes people have. Some people prefer to search for a missing email by date, while others prefer to do so by email keywords. Many people remember the person who sent them the message but not the address from which it was sent. Others can remember exactly who was included in the email chain but not who sent the initial message. All of these issues collide when attempting to find that one specific message you need at the moment.
This is why our team took all of these differences and issues we all have with email search and applied them to a solution — smarter search that works the way you do.
Making searching easy
When fixing search, our team started from the bottom up. We know that by and large when you’re searching for a specific message, you’re hunting for something sent to you by a human, not a marketing team. This is why when you search, business addresses and emails from individuals you don’t respond to are deprioritized. Instead, the individuals you communicate with most regularly are featured at the top of your search results.
In addition, your most recent searches are presented before you even press “search” — saving you time and effort when you need to search for the same items repeatedly.
How it works with assistant
We’ve also integrated our much loved Assistant functionality with search so you can see important details without ever leaving your search screen.
Everything from restaurant reservations to flight information can be accessed with a tap, as we populate your search screen with the details you need. In addition, even before you begin to type in a search term, any upcoming plans from reservations to travel bookings can be found at the very top of the search screen which is a godsend on busy days.
What sets our search apart
We further beefed up our algorithm to recognize when one sender has been emailing you from multiple different accounts. Whenever you’re searching for a specific individual’s name, you’ll be presented with all their email addresses grouped together. This way you’re able to select the entire group and see all the messages they’ve sent you in one place.
Lastly, do you remember if your friend sent you that message to your personal or work email? Are you pretty sure they sent you the message after July but no later than last week?
Sometimes you’re not 100% certain which account your friend sent her resume to and you’re also not sure whether they sent it last week or last month. Sometimes using just one search filter doesn’t cut it.
This is why we’re the first third party email application to give you the ability to stack your search filters to help you find exactly what you need. Search by to or from as well as date range, flagged, read status, specific inbox, pinned, or any combination of the above to find exactly what you need.
Our team is so excited for you to experience smarter search. We spent weeks and months perfecting our new algorithm and transforming search into a more effective tool for your daily inbox needs. In the future, we’ll continue to improve our search algorithm and existing features to offer you the best email experience possible.
