DANVILLE, Va. — E.C. Glass scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to defeat George Washington 27–14 in the 100th meeting of the rivals Friday night at J.T. Christopher Stadium.

Holding a 20–7 lead, E.C. Glass (2–1) pushed its lead to two possessions when senior Avante Brown punched a hole in GW’s defense and took off for a 40-yard rushing score that gave the Hilltoppers a 27–7 advantage with under three minutes remaining.

GW (0–3) wasn’t intimidated, though, responding with a scoring drive of its own that featured a pair of completed passes from junior quarterback Nehemiah Cabell and senior Davian Clements’ big run that got the Eagles down to the Glass 16-yard line. Cabell took over from there, finding Avante Fitzgerald for a 16-yard touchdown reception that closed GW’s deficit to 13.

Despite the loss, the Eagles took the lead early when Cabell converted a fourth down with a 7-yard touchdown pass to senior Jaylen Dabney that gave GW a 7–0 lead.

The Eagles’ defense performed well, keeping the Hilltoppers off the board until the second quarter when senior Michael Thomas punched the clock from three yards to knot the score at 7–7. E.C. Glass took the lead for good minutes later when junior quarterback Max Calloway hooked up with Jamar Smith for a 46-yard touchdown pass that gave the Hilltoppers a 13–7 advantage they took into the break.

The second half proved a defensive battle as neither team scored until the fourth quarter when Glass took a 20–7 lead courtesy of a 57-yard touchdown run.

GW returns to action Sept. 22 when it hits the road for a non-district showdown against Staunton River at 7 p.m.
