RINGGOLD, Va. — Senior Emily McVay smacked a pair of home runs and drove in six runs and Dan River scored 14 runs in the first inning to run away with a 19–1 win over Gretna in Dogwood District action Wednesday night.
McVay smacked a two-run, home run in the first and a three-run shot in the third to finish with a game-high six RBIs. Junior Grayson Snead drilled a two-run, homer in the first to give Dan River (14–2, 6–2 Dogwood) three home runs.
Senior Katie Moser got the scoring started with her RBI double to center field and McVay made it a three-run contest with her two-run shot to center. Junior Emma Williams pushed the Wildcats’ advantage to five with her two-run double to center and sophomore Ashlyn Chappell made it a 7–0 contest with her two-run triple to center. Senior Rebekah Stowe kept the ball rolling with her run-scoring triple to center and Moser drove in Stowe with her RBI single to center. Freshman McKenzie McVay pushed the ‘Cats’ cushion to double digits with her sacrifice fly to left and Snead gave Dan River a 12-run lead with her two-run home run to center. Chappell rounded out the huge frame with her two-run triple that made it 14–0.
Emily McVay gave the Wildcats a 15-run lead with her RBI single to center and Snead pushed the ‘Cats’ cushion to 16 with her run-scoring base knock to center, all in the second inning. Emily McVay rounded out Dan River’s scoring with her three-run blast in the third that gave the Wildcats a 19–0 lead.
Gretna (3–15, 3–7) got on the board in the fifth when Brooklyn Layne scored on a Dan River error on Hailey Owen’s ground ball.
Emily McVay led the Wildcats with six RBIs while Chappell checked in with four. Snead drove in three runs while Moser and Williams drove in a pair of runs apiece. Stowe finished 4-for-4 while Emily McVay and McKenzie McVay went 3-for-3 and Moser went 2-for-2.
Dan River returns to action Friday when it travels to Naruna, Virginia, for a Dogwood road matchup against William Campbell.
