DANVILLE, Va. — On a Fireworks Friday, the Danville Otterbots brought their own explosives on the mound and at the plate in a 5–1 win over the Burlington Sock Puppets in Appalachian League action Friday night at Dan Daniel Park.

Five Danville pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts against Burlington. Ty Cater Holjes (UNC-Wilmington) and former Halifax County standout Mason Hatcher paced the Otterbots with four strikeouts each in two innings of relief apiece.

Ty Lawson (UNC-Wilmington) was solid in the start, throwing two innings of one-hit, shutout ball while striking out three. Khaden Washington (Austin Peay State) got the win on the bump, throwing two innings of one-hit, one-run ball while fanning three. Altogether, the Otterbots only allowed two hits all evening.

Danville (16–10) entered the bottom of the third inning facing a 1–0 deficit. However, the Otterbots flipped the score line with five runs in the frame for the lead. Antonio Cordeiro (St. Bonaventure) got the ‘Bots on the board when he scored on a throwing error on Michael Callan Moss’s ground ball. After moving to third on the miscue, Moss scored on Cole Johnson’s single up the middle and Micah Dean (Kansas State) cleared the bases with his double that bounced off the wall in left field and gave Danville a 5–1 lead.

Burlington (14–13) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third when Brody Block (Reedley JC) scored on a delayed steal for a 1–0 lead.

Dean led Danville with a trio of RBI while Johnson drove in a run each.

Danville returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Johnson City at 7 p.m.
