We’re celebrating Earth Day today! Sustainability and our planet’s future is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. At HP Reinvent, we discussed how sustainability is moving HP and our partners forward. Sustainability is good for the planet, and it’s good for business.

Keys to sustainability

Technology plays a vital role in sustainability efforts. The latest virtual reality (VR) technology is allowing audiences to see and feel the effects of our ever-changing environment. Immersive VR can show viewers the effects of climate change and bring them closer to our planet that needs saving.

Recycling is another key to the sustainability puzzle. HP’s operations in Brazil take the idea of recycling one step further, creating a closed-loop system that turns waste directly into new products. HP’s São Paulo manufacturing facility is zero-waste: Nothing used in the plant ends up in a landfill.

Boost morale and sales

Workplace morale is everything. Your team will give you their best when they believe in what you’re doing. Making sustainability is a priority is one way to boost the morale of your workforce.

Make it known that your company is dedicated to going green. Your team will know they’re making a difference because their company is investing in the future of our planet.

Pro tip: Bring them into the decision-making process and watch their passion and enthusiasm grow.

In addition to morale, you can increase your sales by focusing on sustainability. Consumers are loyal to companies that support social or environmental issues. 68% of millennials are more willing to buy a product with a social or environmental benefit. Even more impressive, 88% of consumers are more loyal to a company that supports social or environmental issues. The reality is that people want to do good in the world and supporting sustainable businesses empower them do that.

88% of people are more loyal to a company that supports social or environmental issues.

As a recent Nielsen report stated, “No matter what, sustainability is no longer a niche play: your bottom-line and brand growth depend on it.”

Our commitment to the planet

At HP, sustainability is one of our main priorities. Our footprint spans the globe and our entire value chain — suppliers, operations, customer use, and product end of service. The manufacturing, delivery, and use of HP products and solutions requires a substantial amount of natural resources. As part of our commitment to protecting the planet, we measure our environmental footprint across the value chain to prioritize areas for improvement. We worked with specialists from WWF Climate Savers to develop ambitious and science-based GHG emissions reduction goals. The insights we gain through this process help us to continually improve and create positive and sustainable impact on the planet, our people, and communities where we live, work, and do business.
