“Kinds Of Kindness”
This is a movie that friends of mine called “crazy” and extreme, although it triggers us to “see” behaviours that manifest very often
People often live for years — or even decades — performing a kind of distorted kindness, a toxic kindness. They become people-pleasers, allowing others to violate their boundaries because they don’t want to be labeled as rude. But…
What does being rude mean?
How much are we willing to sacrifice to earn the medal of kindness?
When does kindness become self-betrayal?
A crazy, (psycho)logical film
Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek filmmaker, mostly known for “The Lobster” and “Poor Things”.
His newest film is called “Kinds of Kindness”. It is a black comedy-drama anthology film, a triptych fable where he presents a few …kinds of kindness.
Two months ago, I watched the movie alone. Yesterday, I watched it with a few friends of mine. At some point, one of them said “What the f* does he want to say? What kind of psychological problems must one have to write a screenplay like that?”.
