“No Speaker Can Instill Motivation In Your Mind”
Most people cannot accept that if a speech inspires them, they have contributed to it
Two days ago, after a Zoom talk where I spoke about time management and procrastination to a group of entrepreneurs, I received an email. A woman that had attended the online Seminar, wrote to me that my presentation changed the way she sees her daily life and that I motivated her.
My response ended with “No speaker can instill motivation in your mind”.
When I say something like that, people usually think that I am humble, but I just describe a fact. A mindset shift that takes place after someone listens to a speech/reads a poem or a book/watches an inspirational video or a movie, etc., cannot be the outcome of that external factor only. It is born by the action of both sides. It is a coordination.
If the outcome depended only on the speaker/the external factor, then things would have been easier. There are many good speakers, nice poems, interesting movies, and books with all the wisdom that humanity has uncovered so far. Why aren’t we all motivated effectively all the time?
