If we could count how many “I love you” and “I love him/her” are heard in the world every day, I bet we would come up with an extremely high number.
But…
What do we — unconsciously — mean by that?
If one observes the human species, it is obvious that the main purpose of relationships — especially when it comes to coupling — is self-gratification.
A mutual search for gratification;
that’s what relationships are.
We dress them up to look like love,
but this doesn’t get us far.
When satisfaction fades away
the quest for a new lover starts,
whether after ending the relationship
or just by adding more “hearts”.
There is no unconditional love
without self forgetfulness,
but we distort this term too,
thinking it means “to self-suppress”.
Flashes of love without motive
manifest sometimes,
but those moments are rare;
we avoid reading between the lines.
Relationships could be
the greatest means for Self-revelation,
but we hide in comfort of not knowing
until communion’s reborn from foundation.
