In the movie Ant-man and the Wasp, Scott Lang was in house-arrest for two years for allying with Captain America. That means, he isn’t allowed to go anywhere but his house. No going out around the complex for a walk, no going to the park, no going to the cinemas, or even to the stores!!!

Imagine the boredom that he had to face for two years straight. And yet here we are, already complaining in the first month.

If you are enjoying this ‘working from home’, great! But if you are not, then I hope this article may help you.

In this article, I want to share how Scott Lang stayed productive at home for two years straight. Hopefully, it can help you all who have been longing to go outside but unable to since most entertainment areas are closed.

Note: Here is the link to the video of him coping two years of house arrest.

1) Have fun!!

I think this is literally in everyone’s mind when they hear ‘work from home’, especially kids. Enjoy it by having fun!! Why torture yourself to boredom?

At the beginning of the movie, Scott was having fun by himself by playing video games and karaoke. And as you can see, he was still able to maintain his sanity.

So, don’t be guilty that you need entertainment. Embrace it! It can help you relax from all the stresses that you used to have when in the office or schools. Plus, you get more time to entertain yourself now.

2) Get creative

This is the very first scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Scott built a maze out of cardboard and filled it in the entire house.

He did this for his daughter so that even though he can’t get out, they can still have a lot of fun at home. They could’ve played video games but Scott made a cardboard maze, which for kids, especially his daughter, is a great delight.

In the end, their father and daughter bond became very close.

As you can see here, he made use of his time to do whatever it takes to be creative. Although it’s subtle in the movie, it actually helped him plan things out when he is fighting. The notable one was in the Civil War, for a while, he took the lead to fight Iron Man’s team because he has a creative plan to distract them.

In fact, Bloomberg found that, with this lockdown, the number of views on how to cook has spiked. This means that this is an opportunity for chefs to make money online by teaching and that a lot of people are learning how to cook more than ever.

So, get creative and make something! Draw, write, play music, cook, just do whatever that turns your brain. It doesn't have to be perfect, just make sure it’s there in front of you. If you think it’s bad, do whatever it takes to make it better, leading to my next point.

3) Learn new skills

For me, while in this lockdown, I am fortunate to have a friend who would teach me how to be a salesperson online. So, not only was I working, but I was also learning my social skills.

So did Scott Lang.

Not only did Scott build a maze for his daughter, but he also learned to do card tricks. This is the lengths he went for his daughter. Warren Buffet once said,

Don’t put all your eggs into one basket.

Just because you learned one thing, doesn’t mean you are set.

Learn what you are always interested in. Learn to play the music, learn to cook, do anything that sparks your creativity, and learn from it. The beauty of living in this era is, on Youtube, there is a lot of videos that teach you about pretty much everything.

4) Read

This is also a common hobby. Go read something. It could be anything! Fiction or non-fiction, keep reading. In Medium, there are so many articles that tell us the benefits of readings. I’m sure when we were kids, we were always told to read. As Tyrion Lannister says:

“A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone.”

So, keep your mind sharp by reading. It will benefit you a lot.

5) Work

I think this is also the most obvious thing to do when you are at home. Got homework? Do it now. Got work? Finish it. Got side hustles? Great!! Use the pandemic advantage to make it grow!!

Scott was developing his own business of security camera with his friend Luis, so he spent his days working on it.

This is how we stay sane during this lockdown.

So the take…

To summarize:

  1. Have Fun!!
  2. Get Creative
  3. Learn new skills
  4. Read
  5. Work

I hope you learn something here, please do make use of your time in this lockdown. You won’t know when you will be able to do something like this again.
