Charged Particles and ETHDenver Announce New Development Partnership for NFTs powered by zkSync

From our inception, Charged Particles has been developing open-source, chain-agnostic, and interoperable tools that drive forward utility for NFTs everywhere. Today, we’re extremely proud to announce a new partnership between some of the most innovative teams in Web 3 — zkSync and ETHDenver. Together we are developing a suite of NFT Smart Wallet integrations for SporkDAO’s Bufficorns that we hope will help shape the growth of user-owned digital identity, decentralized community building, Web 3 gaming, immersive event experiences, and more.

So, let’s take a brief look at each piece of the puzzle and how they all fit together.

Charged Particles

After launching on Ethereum at the beginning of 2021, Polygon later that year, Polygon zkEVM in 2023, and Mantle even more recently, the Charged Particles Protocol and SDK enable NFTs to become composable containers that can hold tokens within their own smart wallets. For more than three years we have developed tools for creating Nested NFTs, DeFi NFTs, and a myriad of Account Abstraction applications (a topic which has become quite popular recently). As such a critical institution in the Web 3 space, ETHDenver likely needs no introduction for most. zkSync, is a ZK rollup on Ethereum, is a veritable behemoth of advancement for the Web 3space as a whole. A leader amongst the foremost Layer 2 blockchains, zkSync provides the foundation for developers all over the world to innovate decentralized technologies while maintaining the core needs of interoperability, security, and scalability. What’s Being Built?

SporkDAO’s Bufficorn BUIDL Brigade team approached us last year to discuss their ideas for what is now being called the “On-Chain Trait Swapper” and “Metadata Modulator.” The idea was simple: enable holders of their Bufficorn NFTs to swap traits between Bufficorns in their wallet. Don’t like an attribute? You can make your Bufficorn look however you like. This co-creation customization would help deepen community member’s connection to their digital identities. We realized quickly though, that we could do so much more than this by using NFT Smart Wallets.

Tokenizing individual metadata traits as their own NFTs and nesting them inside an NFT’s Smart Wallet is something that we’ve been speaking about for several years. Each Bufficorn may have some 10 traits. Now, instead of thinking of it as metadata, we can think of them as 10 NFTs that the Bufficorn is holding. Like an in-game skin or equipable item, these unique Trait NFTs are actually nested within the NFT itself. Don’t like a trait? You can unequip it and hold it in your wallet as a unique, transferable NFT — a digital object with its own history, market value, etc.

This next step of Web 3’s integration into gaming opens the doors for new community-based use-cases, pushes forward digital identity, and promises of a decentralized metaverse where digital objects are user-owned.

We’ll get to realize this vision with the SporkDAO Bufficorns. Customizing your unique NFT, finding secondary market value for rare traits, and much more will soon be possible on zkSync.
