Last week, the Tallinn painter Martin Saar, who is currently in Estonia on a break from studying in New York, took the wraps off a selection of new artwork in an exhibition at his studio on Tatari Street, Tallinn. The work which raised the most questions was the picture below, which to my eyes was about many Estonians’ perceived need to leave the country, whilst still holding onto their national identity (the flag). However Martin explained that I should also look out for (Tallinn Mayor) Edgar Savissaar driving what I assume is a Dodge Charger. Martin wasn’t telling me what this meant — he told me, rightly, to draw my own conclusions.

Here is a selection of Martin’s other new paintings. What do you think of them? Click on each one to open in a larger view, and let me know your thoughts on Facebook, Twitter or Google+. Warning: some of the paintings below are only Safe For Work if your workplace is cool and your manager is not watching over your shoulder.
