Over the last century, baseball has contributed significantly to the understanding and popularity of statistics. Now through Memorial Day, we will be collecting examples of great visualization and infographics that focus on America’s Pastime.

THE CHALLENGE

Find and submit the most interesting, innovative, or awesome infographic or visualization related to baseball. Submit it on Twitter using #BaseballViz2016 be sure to reference @CorsairsIN. Or like our Facebook page and post on our wall. Be sure to add a comment on why you found it so compelling. Last but not least, submit via Instagram using @CorsairsIN.

Feel free to like, comment, or share other submissions. Baseball Visualization 2016 will also be available on Pinterest and Pearltrees. We want to hear your comments. Good or bad — just keep the comments to the infographics, not the contributors. We are looking forward to a great conversation around both data visualization and baseball.

The Schedule

Between now and the middle of May, we will post articles (roughly weekly)calling out top submissions, top contributors, and other themes of interest. We may mix in some more baseball trivia and history. Hopefully, we will discuss a lot of visualization best practice as well.

As we approach Memorial day weekend, we will select the most compelling submissions, as determined by all of you, to showcase in a Closers round. In the final week, these submissions will be voted on to determine who gets bragging rights.

Some Other Questions That Have Come Up

Do I have to create my own? No. Feel free to promote the work of others. Just don’t claim it as your own. This Challenge is about finding excellence first and foremost. If you feel inspired to create your own, do take the credit you deserve. We will make every effort to call out original work and may ask you to let us feature it in one of our articles.

Can we create teams? Sure. Create a team name, add it to your posts, and promote each other’s submissions. We think this is a fantastic idea and hope it drives a little rivalry.

Is there a prize? The honor of winning is prize enough! No seriously, we are working with our lawyers to launch a contest that includes prizes as early as this summer. Corsair’s Institute should be launching one, conveniently just after Memorial Day. Our development team is hard at work on Corsair’s Network, a content and learning portal dedicated to analytics and professional development. We hope to launch later this year with plenty of contests, competitions, and of course… prizes.

Baseball Visualization Challenge is a concept created by Corsair’s Institute. Neither this competition nor Corsair’s Institute is not associated with the MLB in any way. Our visualization expertise is second to none. Our softball team loses in games where the other team forfeits.
