You already know there are a million reasons to learn how to code. Did you know there are just as many to learn how to design? Here are some of them.

1—You should learn to design, because you are already doing it, even if you don’t realize it.

If you solved a problem today (“What should I have for breakfast?”), you were engaging in the practice of design as problem solving. Design is not art. Design is creativity put to a purpose, often a business one, and so you may as well learn to design, because you will do it, every day, for the rest of your life. You will do it in whatever career you are in, whether you work with spreadsheets, PowerPoints, people, code. You will do it whenever you try to change something about your life—if you ever try to be more productive, healthier, happier. You will do it when you move, when you decide what job you will take, when you pick the place where you’ll have dinner tonight. You will do it in both big and small ways—you most definitely have done it in many big and small ways already—so you may as well master the tools and processes of the practice so that you can have the full power of the discipline at your disposal.

2—You should learn to design, because you can.
