Scott Webb Photography 2017: A Seriously Prolific Year in Architectural Photography
To begin, I must bring up how much of a struggle 2016 was for me and my photography. I won’t go into much detail because I have already discussed rock bottom in a small series of Chasing Photography and you could read more, if interested. My architectural photography was still very much a grind and low on work. I firmly believe this 2016 issue was a result of being a generalized photographer and trying to get any type of photography work.
Everything changed when I decided to fire myself at the end of 2016 and hire myself back as ONLY an architectural photographer. Since then, I experienced a prolific year with respect to my architectural photography. In this quick review type post, I wanted to simply list amazing clients, projects, and a few photographs from 2017 you may not have seen yet. Also, find a little bit of banter added in.

Income from Architectural Photography
There are people stating that you can’t make money from photography today. I have to say that those people are incorrect. All of my income is a result of my photography work and it’s why I’m so grateful. In 2017, I believe I’ve had my best year ever. It took a year of eating dirt, but it would appear I hit some business goals. Moreover, all I’ve done is continue to invest in my photography business. Because of such reinvestment, I believe my photography greatly improved as 2017 came to an end. Building an architectural photography business is not easy and it’s why I dedicated myself 100% to it for 2017. If you come back to read my 2018 intentions, you might find that I want to freely share content around building my photography business in 2017 — to potentially help other photographers and anyone interested.
By The Numbers
Over the course of 2017, I shot around 56 different buildings or locations related to assignments. I also created 20 pieces of abstract architectural wall art. I shot only a few locations for my own personal study and to challenge myself to grow. Happily, those self-motivated projects resulted in helping out a couple architecture firms too. I’ve still got long lists of projects to photograph and these will extend into Spring 2018.
In this post, I won’t blast you with every photo. I’m still trying to be consistent with sharing them on the blog.
I am a bit disappointed that London had such terrible weather for the most part of November. It made it very difficult to shoot more.
However, at the same time, I’m amazed by what I was able to still accomplish for multiple clients. The hustle is real!
Full of Gratitude
As 2017 comes to a close, I am so full of gratitude. This was the most eventful year I can remember. It was so challenging, both photographically and in business, and so much fun at the same time. I worked with such amazing talent in this city and beyond. I’ve never been more happy to live and work in London than ever before. And yes, I’m even grateful for any proposals that I didn’t land.
