Disneyland Park To Update the Classic Ride: Autopia
A Disneyland staple since its opening day in 1955, Autopia is a classic ride where guests get behind the wheel of miniature cars and navigate a scenic track. It’s a rite of passage for many young visitors, offering a tiny taste of independence as they steer their very own vehicle.
With the state’s focus shifting towards clean energy solutions, Disneyland is looking to update Autopia for a new era. According to the Los Angeles Times columnist Sammy Roth, Jessica Good, a park spokesperson, said in an email, “we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction.” This means the iconic gas-powered cars will be replaced with more sustainable energy ones, aligning with Disneyland’s commitment to a more sustainable future.
The conversion process will likely involve deciding on different electric vehicle technologies to find a perfect fit for the ride’s unique needs. Disneyland imagineers could modify existing electric car designs or even create custom-built electric vehicles specifically for Autopia’s track.
One thing’s for certain: even though the cars will be getting a clean energy makeover, the essence of Autopia — the joy of taking the wheel and cruising through a whimsical landscape — is sure to stay the same.
