Hey everyone! Thanks first and foremost for reading Chasing Sound. You guys are the best.

We’ve been doing one of these each weekend since last October! You can catch most of the archive right here on Medium if you’re new. Last week I was talking to heavy hitters like Michael Angelo Batio and Dave Weiner (from Steve Vai’s band).

This week I’ve rounded up some great guitar related things, and I have a special announcement too! Let’s get it started.

J Mascis on being at war with the guitar — J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. not only has a super cool looking signature model guitar, but is also a great and unique guitar player. In this video from Fender, he talks about being at war with the guitar. He has an interesting take on the instrument. If you’re into indie, punk rock, or Fender Jazzmasters, you should check this out.

Isolated guitar tracks — We hear our favorite guitar players on albums when the album is shiny and complete. What do some of our heroes sound like isolated from the rest of the mix? This post from Guitar Player answers just that, with isolated tracks from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Nirvana and more. What’s your favorite?

Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band — I remember when I was following the Warped Tour a few years back, hearing this interesting trio of musicians. Rev Peyton himself on vocals and slide guitar, his wife on electric washboard, and his drummer (complete with a bucket for his floor tom). They were so cool that I made it a point to see them play every day and meet them.

This is cool southern rock. They have a new album out called Front Porch Sessions, and it’s awesome. The Rev himself is a wicked guitar player, and has some cool lessons on YouTube. I fell in love with this fingerstyle playing, and he teaches that in this video.

Mini pedals — Mini pedals are all the rage right now, and have been taking over at lots of pedal manufacturers. I’m a fan of the mini Crybaby myself from Dunlop, and these pedals surely do allow for a more portable pedalboard. Have you tried any of these mini pedals? If so, which ones do you like?

Top 10 movies for guitarists — Want some downtime from playing guitar, but still want to do something guitar-centric? Check out the top 10 guitar related movies from Guitar World. From cult classics like Crossroads with Steve Vai, to more kid friendly movies like School of Rock, there’s something for everyone on this list!

Chasing Sound is launching March 20th — Nope that’s not a typo, Chasing Sound is finally going to launch on Monday, March 20th.

There’ll be lessons, articles about guitar players, videos and lots more. I have a lot planned that’s going to roll out throughout the year. Do you want to see me cover something guitar related? Let me know!

I’m going to try to delight you guys by sweating the details. I’ve been playing guitar for nearly 20 years now, and I know what would make ME happy with an online guitar site. I’m going to do the best to bring special guitar related goodness to you through the website.

The other good news? I’ll still be doing Six String Sunday every week to bring you the best in guitar related stuff from around the web.

That’s about it for now. Thanks for reading, and have a great week!
