Just as we all yearned to define ‘social media marketing’ as distinct from ‘social media for marketing’, we face a similar conundrum today: defining AI Marketing, as opposed to just employing AI in marketing or using AI for marketing.

The subtle shift in prepositions signals a dramatic paradigm shift: we’re not merely considering AI as a tool or aid, but embracing it as a whole new marketing spectrum.

At present, one of the closest touch-points AI has to consumers is through dialogues — be it text, voice, or video. This mode of information acquisition is reminiscent of early search engines. But how do we leverage these dialogues to disseminate information about brands, products, or services?

What is the new marketing mode that fits AI media as aptly as keywords suited search engines?

Here are a couple of concepts I’ve been mulling over:

1. AI Personas

When people earnestly seek information or assistance from AI, they usually presuppose that AI assumes a certain role, providing objective, fair, or authoritative information.

Currently, products like ChatGPT, being universal language models without specific professional limitations, can adapt their dialogue mode to deliver seemingly credible content when asked for specialized help.

This poses an interesting opportunity for traditional brands — how can they merge with AI to create these professional personas and become the go-to expert when consumers have specific needs?

OpenAI seems to be following this trajectory with its professional role plugins, and the future marketplace of such plugins will be an amalgamation of diverse user interaction scenarios.

2. AI Contents

Seamlessly integrated into text, images, audio, and video. This method is somewhat analogous to SEO — by understanding how an AI persona recommends content and supplying it with product or brand information, we can distribute marketing messages.

For instance, if you use an AI tool to generate an image, it usually contains backgrounds or items. Suppose you could subtly integrate a client’s product into these scenarios — wouldn’t that mirror keyword advertising? The same logic applies to text, audio, and video, aligning with my concept of the ‘Chat Mention’ model.

Join me as we stand on the precipice of AI Marketing’s birth. Chat Mention is not about tutorials on using AI or tools like ChatGPT for copywriting or image generation — plenty are providing those. We strive to offer something distinctive. Let’s observe, explore, and shape this new frontier together.
