Life is full of up and downs, and sometimes it can get so difficult that it’s hard to focus on achieving your goals when there’s so much that’s challenging your progress. However, no matter how hard it gets, it’s possible to stay motivated even during the hardest times.

Here are a few tips to help you stay motivated:

Remember Your Goals — Stay Motivated

Oftentimes, the best way to pick yourself up when going through a difficult time is to remind yourself why you do what you do in the first place? What matters to you the most? Is it your family? Is it to improve your situation or the lives of those around you? Whatever it is, make sure that your goals are bigger than you, because you’ll need to draw on them for strength when the odds are against you, which they inevitably will at some point. That’s just life. It’s how you face you challenges that will define you.

Build Courage — Stay Motivated

Like building a house, building courage is a gradual process. You have to lay one brick at a time, and soon enough you will have a wall. For example, the best way to build courage as a writer is to write every day. Even if it is for 30 minutes, you’ll soon find your skills improving and over time you’ll have more courage to share your work with others. This rings true no matter what it is that what you want to do.
Keep in mind that as soon as you start moving in the direction of what you want to achieve, your energy will start changing, and that’s ultimately how you build momentum and courage to do what you love which will bring you closer to your goals.

Take Care of Your Health — Stay Motivated

When somebody asked Dalai Lama what surprises him the most about humanity, he responded “People sacrifice health to make money. Then they sacrifice money to recover health.”
The take away from this is that you shouldn’t get so hung up trying to make a living or chasing your dreams that you forget to take care of your health. As it’s often said, “health is wealth” and without good health, you won’t be able to enjoy the fruits of your success. Luckily, staying healthy in our day and age is really easy.

All you have to do is practice good lifestyle habits such as:

Diet — Thanks to the internet, it’s really easy for anyone to learn useful information about the essentials of good nutrition and how to eat a balanced diet. Generally, you should try to stick to whole foods and keep your diet balanced yet dynamic. You should also include fruits, vegetables, grains, good healthy fats, and proteins. On the other hand, reduce your intake of processed foods, fast food, and sugary snacks and drink alcohol in moderation. Better health means more energy and increased vitality, to put towards your goals.

Exercise — Typically, 60 to 90 minutes of exercise per day for 3 to 5 days per week is enough to keep you fit and energized, no matter what type of exercise program you follow.

Sleep — Try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night for optimal health, as poor sleeping habits can negatively impact your concentration and energy levels throughout the day. So try and maintain a routine time that you go to bed each night, as your body will naturally adjust to this schedule and adjust itself accordingly for a more efficient sleep.

Face Your Fears — Stay Motivated

We all have fears. It’s just part of being human. But what sets those who achieve their goals and dreams apart from those that don’t is the ability to face fears. Most of the time, facing your fears can help you discover more about yourself, and overcoming them will show you that you’re actually stronger than you’ve ever imagined. Face your biggest fear head on and you will be empowered.

Seek Help — Stay Motivated

Whatever you do, don’t close yourself out when you’re down. Instead, reach out to your support system, especially your mentor. Keep in mind that the people who make things happen in life don’t do it alone. They have mentors who guide them towards their goals so if you’re lucky enough to have a mentor then call on that resource when you need to. It has been said that you are the average of the 5 people you associate with most. Take a look your circle of friends is they helping or hindering your progress? Surround yourself with winners and soon you will become one.
