‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ is making buzz since a couple of days now. Fans spread across the globe are looking forward to a sequel of their favorite magic fiction book/movie of all times. The last movie released was in the year 2011 (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2). Wow! It’s been five years to that already.

Now that we have a new story of Albus Severus Potter, the cursed child of Harry Potter (why is he cursed BTW!!!), we thought of revisiting some of the famous locations of the earlier films. Almost all the locations used in the film are from United Kingdom and also some parts of Scotland.

Here are the filming locations as seen in the movies-

1. Warner Bro’s Studio

Warner Bro’s Studio is the Mecca of all Harry Potter Fans around the world. There are numerous scenes which have been shot here. The studios has been used as a filming location since the first movie of the series (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone). A tour of the entire studio will cost adults 50£ and a bit less for children (there are group results also available!). You can see Privet Drive, Hogwarts Train Platform, the Great Hall of Hogwarts, Godric’s Hollow and also some parts of Diagon Alley.

2. London- Leadenhall Market, Big Ben, Australia House & King’s Cross Station

After Warner Bro’s Studio, London is the place where most of the scenes from the Harry Potter Films are shot. Leadenhall Market in the city is the place where 42 Bull’s Head Passage — the entrance to The Leaky Cauldron pub is shot. The pub’s hind side opens up to Diagon Alley. Australia House is used to depict the famous Gringott’s Bank in the first movie. Big Ben is seen when Harry sees the city for the first time with Hagrid (when they go shopping for school supplies). The renowned Platform 9 ¾ is located right here! (Although it is actually between Platforms 4 & 5).

3. Scotland- Glencoe, Loch Shiel & Jacobite Steam Train

Fort William and Glencoe are used multiple times to depict the exterior of Hogwarts such as the lush green lawns. The amazing Hogwarts Train is a real train that runs from Fort William and Mallaig. Loch Shiel is the place used when the Dementors are seen giving Harry a hard time by torturing him on the train. But Reamus Lupin saves him.

4. Bath- Gloucester Cathedral

Gloucester Cathedral is used in ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’. The scene where there is a message written on the wall with blood, as a warning to Harry Potter is shot here. Also the castle is used to film the corridors of Hogwarts in almost every film of the series.

5. Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral of the first two films of the series. Professor McGonagall’s classroom, when the trio gets detention from her, when Harry releases Hedwig in a place filled with snow, when there is a transfiguration class in the second film( Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), and many more scenes are filmed here.

6. Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle located in Northumberland, England was the best location the movie makers could find. This place is used to show the Hogwarts Castle throughout the first two movies of the beloved series!

7. Freshwater West

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and both the parts of Deathly Hallows have used this location. The Mystery Cottage in the Deathly Hallows was set up in Freshwater west, in Wales. A beautiful and serene beach in Wales served as a perfect location for the creators of the most loved film series.
